Despite being intended as a second level text, this is an excellent introduction to Irish history ,( in a similar vein to The Course of Irish History by Moody & Martin)
Particularly strong on the home rule era and Land War , as well as on the Revolutionary Ireland period ( c 1912-1923. Chapters also on the establishmnet and direction of the Northern State, as well as the development of politics and economy in the Irish Free State.
In summary, ideal for anyone seeking a detailed ( but not exhaustive) survey of the main developments in Irish history for the period, or as an introduction to the early history of the Republic and Northern Ireland.
