The author traces the history of Tyrellspass from early Christian times through turbulent years of conquest, colonisation, famine , independence and development.
The town and the surrounding areas stand strategically on the Slí Mór - a gateway through which many armies advanced bothe eastward and westward Gaelic chieftains, Anglo Normans Cromwellians and Williamites all left their particular mark . The photographs of the area and its inhabitants ( many only reproduced in this book) give much insight into the town - with the striking village green and Georgian layout.
There is a gift inscription ( dated 1995) on the title page, as well as one corner ( photographed) showing a curl both to the cover and the initial pages. No othe rmarks.
The binding is tight, no titles to spine, the pale beige covers are sunned slightly. 212 pages. Blank back cover and spine , with bibliogaphy, and a listing of owners of property in the town in 1900 and 1986 .
