Beautiful simple story of a young girl's experiences living in poverty in a Dublin tenement over 100 years ago. It recounts her first discovering her attraction to the opposite sex. A simple heart-warming story well written and recounting the real hardships and trials of the poor but the real sense of community that existed despite apalling difficulties. Although not fantasy ( and the author was a writer of some fantasy novels) this book does contain some elements of a Cinderella type fairytale .
