At the time of writing, trinity Colleg was 400 years old, one of theh largest libraries in Ireland, yet a single detailed history of the institution did not exist. This book was a study towards that end - 'providing 11 closely researched essays on core topics in the library's history : The library buidings staff and conditions of employment, early collections and book bindings, the library in the 17th century, manuscript resources, the legal deposit priviledge, and the expansion of the library in the 19th century. The volume is completed with a lengthy bibliography on the library, a list of relevant illustrations, and a comprehensive chronology of its history. The editors Vincent Kinane and Anne Walsh were members of library staff.
