''When I was young the only thing I could do well was draw. Stuff like maths, sport and algebra went way over my head, but I could draw up a storm. Give me a pencil and sketch book and I was lost to the world for hours, dreaming up all sorts of visual mayhem. As art was my only talent it made sense to send me to art school where I learnt the really useful stuff like dancing, smoking, drinking and touring in a band - everything but drawing. That was fine though, drawing isn't something that can be taught like Latin or Physics, it's either in your DNA or it's not, so if you stop for a while the gift doesn't go away. I stopped once music had taken me over and it wasn't until 1981 that I started again. Lol Creme and I had enjoyed a successfully noisy 1970s and we felt like retreating behind a couple of quiet drawing boards with some Indian ink and doing er...something.
The something turned out to be an illustrated book...a parody of the Rock & Roll lifestyle featuring short stories and pen and ink observations of the absurd world we'd inhabited for the last few years - The Fun Starts Here''
