A paperback copy, Mercier Press, cork, 1967 of a series of the RTE Thomas Davis Lectures on post independence Ireland - The Years of the Great Test 1926-39. This was edited by Francis MacManus, and contains essays by almost a who's who of notable 1960's Irish historical writing - , Kevin B Nowlan, T Desmond Williams, FSL Lyons, Nicholas Mansergh, Terence de Vere White, and Donal Nevin.
Also has an essay on the Blueshirts by David Thornley, and an essay on post Independence literature by Francis MacManus.
Condition - very good - there is a slight bump to the lower edge of the front cover, otherwise as new. Fade and yellowing to the contents page only - ( somewhat oddly as it is a few pages in) . Not ex library, no other marks noted.
A valuable survey of the new Irish State, and the particular challenges it faced from Independence to WW2. Now out of print.
