Kerry born author Maurice Walsh (1879-1964) - here in a 1979 reprint in dustjacket by his original publisher, Chambers. Many of his novels were set in either Ireland or Scotland, where he had lived for long periods .
Hugh Forbes, the small dark man of the title, is a swash-buckling black-haired Irishman who descends on the Scottish Highlands in this tale of adventure and romance. Here he encounters Frances Mary, and comes into violent conflict with the arrogant Vivian Stark.
Condition - excellent condition - light dust darkening to the page block, the front blank endpaper has a previous owners name ( but neatly).
Most of Walsh's work is now out of print.
