Product Description
Kuno Meyer of Hamburg made the Irish language the passion of his life. He reproved Irish institutions of learning for their neglect of the language. He proclaimed its importance in the context of European civilization. In 1903 he founded the School of Irish Learning to rescue the rich treasures of Irish literature from the dust and oblivion in which they had lain for generations. This book details his career, which was neither free from controversy, scholarly and political nor, in its last years, from unhappiness.
First edition, 1991, hardcover in dustjacket, the dustjacket is now in a clear plastic removable jacket protector. A hint of sun fade to psine, some thumbprints and yellowing to page block, some yellowed age spotting to preliminary pages. Binding tight, internally unmarked.
