Joe Deasy was also a writer who penned short biographies of Jim Larkin and his hero, JamesConnolly. He was also active in the cooperative movement and endured huge church oppostion to this work. His career illustrates the large changes that occurred in Ireland from the grim and oppressive 1940s and 1950s to the more open society that began to emerge from the 1960s onwards.
