Carter provides the reader with a basic lesson in statistics and probability using real life examples . He is also careful to outline the limitations of various research methods. The book is older ( originally published 1962) so some of the research may be superseded by later developments - (but you'll find that a lot of the topics are still being discussed today). The chapter about colour blindness and its advantages was particularly interesting. Due to the counter-intuitive nature of the concepts, the book should be read slowly and with patience, but it's a rewarding read even 60 years on.
