In very good dust wrapper with very slight creasing/ crusching creases to head of spine ( not ethis is visible on the white dustjacket only, not on the book itself underneath) ,
"Camille Souter, born Betty Pamela Holmes, is a painter. Though born in Northampton, England, in 1929, she was raised in Ireland. She was elected Saoi of Aosdána in 2008. She originally trained as a nurse and began painting during the 1950s while recovering from illness. Her name '"Camille" is a nickname given to her by first husband Gordon Souter
Camille Souter captures light and color, texture and form in intimate almost abstract paintings of unexpected subjects, her subject matter has included landscapes, still lifes and slaughterhouses.
Souter lived and worked on Achill Island, Mayo. Her works can be seen in many public and private collections including the National Gallery of Ireland, the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery, Ulster Museum, Irish Museum of Modern Art and the Arts Council of Ireland collection. She died in 2023.
