'...I have been in Ireland three years now. To me personally, Ireland has been the loneliest place I have ever been in my life. It is the coldest place and when I say cold I do not mean weather wise; mainly it is the cold of human relations. I do not necessarily call it outright racism because it is not racism. You see when people meet in pubs here they think that is closeness but it is not and this is just a big smoke screen that hides the true separateness of the Irish people'. '...I love the country and Ireland is blessed with so many good things. The land is wonderful, there are fields and forest, and it is all so green. People say there is too much rain but where I come from it is all dry, hot and humid. I really enjoy the weather here and there are seasons, which we don't have in India. It is beautiful and the leaves falling around - people have everything here'.
Voices at the Crossroads is a collection of interviews put together by the author with a brief introduction about the purpose. Rather than being an analytical enquiry into the experience of immigration in a new Ireland, it gives voice to the diversity of the people who have come to the island. It offers insight into the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and opinions of the 'new' Irish. The book has 52 stories from a range of 43 different nationalities.
