Product Description
The author wrote this account ( in Polish) in 1946, "fresh" from Auschwitz and not many years later like most first-hand survivors' stories.
Also, while interned there (both Auschwitz & Birkenhau), she was treated as a Polish "Aryan" political prisoner, and not a Jew, and - although suffered tremendously along with everyone else - was eventually given more "privileged" work such as sorting the "still warm" clothes of those who were gassed in the "Kanada" warehouse, and as an office clerk responsible for registering all the new arrivals. Therefore she was in a unique position to witness all the physical and emotional horrors faced by the new groups of arrivals - especially the Jews from Greece,Italy and Hungary - as well as the daily sufferings taking place to herself and all those around her, and has lived to recount them.
