As well as some of Pádraic Mac Piarais's writings from An Claidheamh Soluis, this collection also includes the most well known of Mac Piarais's short stories which have been loved by generations of Irish readers. Pádraic Mac Piarais was born in Dublin in 1879. He first took an interest in the Irish language as a child and played an active role in Conradh na Gaeilge from 1896. He was appointed as the editor of An Claidheamh Soluis in 1903 and started creative writing in 1905; writing essays, plays, short stories.
