Puirséal traces the issues and events that went into the making of the movement - its traditional roots, turbulent early years, high ideals and illustrious achievements. Into the historical narrative he has woven exciting accounts of memorable championship games and penetrating profiles of leading players and personalities. Forty classic black and whte phorographs illustrate early moments in GAA history .
Puirséal ( 1914-1979) had completed the book, and his family published it posthumously in hardcover, it was subsequently published in paperback by Ward River Press in 1984 for the GAA centenary.
