Victor cazalet was a complictaed man - and this book is largely based on his own detailed journals and diaries, which he had kept since tha age of 13. Born into a well connected family, he served in ww1, and was involved in the Russian Civil war hostilities after the 1917 Revolution. A close friend of Churchill, he warned of teh dangers of the slide to totalitarianism in the 1930's , and beacme a Tory MP . He was an advocate for Jewish Independence, as well as a close associate of the Polish Government in Exile in WW2 - it was with General Sikorski that he died in a plane crash in 1943 near Gibraltar , where he was serving a military liaoson between the Poles and the British Government.
