Rosa Nouchette Carey was a popular and prolific writer of what her reviewers characterized as “wholesome” domestic romances in the tradition of Jane Austen and, more immediately, of Charlotte M. Yonge. Between 1868, when her first novel Nellie’s Memories appeared, and her death in 1909, she produced forty-one novels
