He looks at the technical aspects such as oils versus watercolour techniques, the use of additives for acrylics, wet-in-wet, and working with masking fluid in watercolours.
Terry also majors on the creative aspects of painting, covering subjects from water and landscapes to trees and skies in both media.
Some ideas occupy a whole spread, such as getting started with underpainting and backgrounds before moving to the main part of the scene.
Others are more compact, such as the simple use of black to create a shadow that gives depth and texture to a brick wall.
The whole thing has a quick-fire feel to it and is full of "gosh, of course" moments when you realise that the answer you were looking for is far simpler than you thought.
Although it's not new material, selecting the best ideas has given the book a freshness that deserves another look.
