This is the story of a family growing up on an Offaly farm in the 1930’s, when the new Irish state was a mere sixteen years in existence and the Common Agriculture Policy and EU subsidies belonged to a dim and distant future. The story of a wife left to farm eighty acres and rear a family of four boys and two girls, ranging in ages from nine to one and a half. The story is set in the beginning of September 1938 on a farm nestled in a quiet valley at the foot of Slieve Bloom one mile west of the village of Killeigh. Well illustrated.
