Product Description
A hardcover first edition, Macmillan 1973 , of Geoffrey Tease's biography of D.H Lawrence, The Phoenix and the Flame. D.H Lawrence was one of the major english language novelists of the 20th century, and the first novelist to break through the confined and dull Victorian mindset , especially in relation to the depiction of sexuality in novels, as thE famous Lady Chatterley's Lover case showed.
HarDcover , in very good condition, price clipped on the inner front flap, illustrated with b&w photographs. More of a biography of the author's life than an analysis of his literary output ( although obviously the two are interlinked) . Lawrence lived a highly charged life - his early love affairs, his elopement , an overprotective mother who attempted to manage his whole life, his brushes with the police and with censorship, and his restless travels around the world, from Italy to Mexico.
Light edgewear to the covers, a small repaired tear to the back fold, internaly unmarked, not ex library, no marks or inscriptions.
