Perhaps known to history best as the victorious general at the Battle of Alamein, and his stewardshipof the 8th Army in North Africa, , he was tehn involved in later campaigns in Tunis, Sicily, Italy, France, D-day and the subsequent breakout in the low countries and the invasion of Germany.
Montgomery had founght in two world wars, and in postwar Europe was a key figure in the establishment of NATO .
