Charles McGlinchey (1861-1954) a weaver and tailor, lived his entire life on the Inishowen Peninsula in Donegal. On winter evenings in the 1940s and 50s, McGlinchy would visit friend , the teacher Patrick Kavanagh and talk about his life and times.
This is a frank account of life in the area, sometimes evocative, such as his accounts of ahard working, neighbourly piopulation, story telling, social life, as well as vicious faction fighting, marriage rape, and much more.
Kavanagh wrote down McGlinchey's words in their entirety.
With an introduction by Brian Friel.
