Product Description
This book offers a good economic history of Ireland dueing the sixties. The dominance of the Catholic church is reflected in the political history, including the gradual severance of Church and state during that decade. Generous refernces are made in regard to Lemass as well as other government ministers who developed very positive economic outcomes during the sixties. Free education for post primary students became available, which changed the employment landscape for the first time in Irish hisitory. Emigration was reversed in that there was a movement of many professional and skilled workers back home to Ireland.
A very interesting read about Ireland in the modern world.
