This classic novel from renowned novelist, short-story writer and broadcaster Benedict Kiely follows the trials of a doctor who becomes a gambler and loses everything. Kiely (1919-2007) was born in Omagh in 1919. He was awarded honorary doctorates by the National University of Ireland and the Queen's University, Belfast. In 1996 he received the highest honour of Aosdana, the Irish artists' body, when he was elected a Saoi, in recognition of his contribution to literature.
