Product Description
The setting for these stories is mostly around the 1940s, and is of a young boy at the time – growing up in a farmyard in ‘The Liberties’, an area in the centre of Dublin. Stocked with horses, pigs, hens, a cow, a goat and other animals, the yard had all the day-to-day routine, drama, tragedy, fun and adventure of a rural farmyard.
Seen through the eyes of a boy, but at times with my reflective comment as an adult, the book is a series of true stories told simply and lovingly, about the caring, gutsy, passionate people who touched his life as he was growing up. It is a happy book about boyhood adventures, life’s experiences, and sexual discovery - balanced lightly with nostalgia for a magical time which some fortunate enough to have experienced will never forget, and would not have missed. Mostly though, it is a book of love stories in the many facets of that emotion, and it fills up one’s senses as few other books of the times have done.
