Product Description
First Edition, published by Methuen , London 1894. An uncommon title.
Green cloth binding (slighly faded, unevenly) with titles in silver on the spine and front cover (which ihas a silver harp and four shamrocks as part of the design). 214 pages, with a 24-page publisher's catalogue, dated October 1893, in the rear.
While basically a sound book, there are condition issues: mild bumping; there is chipping to the head of the spine, and the front gutter has cracked (but is holding very well). The cloth of the front edge of the spine is split in the centre ( but holding well). The spine itself has darkened from green to pale brown.
Previous owners name ( from F? A.G Wells) on title page in ink.
Standish O'Grady (1846-1928) occupies an interesting place in Irish literary history. A Protestant and a political Unionist, he was nontheless a strong influence within the nationalistic renaissance of W.B Yeats and Lady Gregory.
