This is a pictorial history of the researchers and scientists who visited and studied the unique marine envirinment of Lough Hyne ( or Loch Ine ) , located 5km southwest of Skibbereen on the West Cork coast. The lake is saltwater , with a tidal flow, and was first 'discovered' by marine biologists in 1896, and became Europe's first Marine Nature Reserve in 1981. The book features a wealth of photographs of the various scientists and researchers who visited the locality over the century, as well as images of local people and events, the stunning local scenery of the lake and its environs, as well as images of early dives at the site.
