Waterford M.P John Redmond ( 1856-1918) made the attainmnet of Home Rule his parliamentary life work - and in 1912 ( as the bill was proposed) published this book to explain the bill, the impact it would have and argue for the swift adoption of it .
The bill was passed, the first world war intervened, the bill was postponed, and then, events , events , meant that the bill would never see implementation, Ireland was divided. Redmond's life-long struggle was to achieve Irish self-government and to reconcile unionists with nationalists and Ireland with England. After a distinguished career in public service he died in the bitter knowledge that his efforts had ended in unrelieved failure.
Somewhat oddly, ads for Pears Soap, Eno's Fruit Salt and Chlorodyne on inside and back covers.
