A hardcover fisrt printing originally 1959 ) of the standard English Irish dictionary used in Ireland - Béarla go Gaeilge ( not vice versa) and published by Oifig an tSolatháir, Dublin. Binding is tight. not ex library, no school stamps etc.
Glan istigh is amuigh. , this copy is very good, clean and unmarked, the cream dustjacket is dustdarkedn and shows light edgewear.
The Caighdeán Oifigiúil/Official Standard Irish was not available in time to be implemented throughout the English-Irish Dictionary at the time of its publication in 1959 and, accordingly, the spelling and grammar of the Irish versions in English-Irish Dictionary are not wholly compliant with the later Caighdeán Oifigiúil. No additional appendix was issued until 1978, which included a scattering of modern phrases and words. ( such as computer, etc, and a host of medical, business and technical terms not in common usage in 1959)
