Product Description
The Buchan Papers take us on a series of gruelling adventures in the mountainous area north of Johannesburg, involving long pursuits, falls over cliffs, a bush fire, and attacks by "natives". Just when the tribulations are becoming unbearable, the protagonist (Buchan himself) staggers into a civilised household and is regaled with brandy, bacon and eggs, a bath, and civilised conversation. The McGuffin is a lost treasure known as "Kruger's gold", and the British chaps (including Buchan) are up against wily Afrikaaners, nasty Germans, and the Natives as they were called. The book is a pastiche of the works of Buchan; Jones cleverly implies that the hitherto unpublished Buchan Papers, which he "discovered", had been the groundwork for Buchans's best-selling stories, many of which are still in print today.
