Product Description
Thie photography for this book began in the late 90's when Lorraine Tuck started to photograph areas along the former Connemara railway line which ran from Galay city westwards via Maam cross to Clifden. After living abroad for some time Lorraine returned home and resumed making photographs along the old line.
The Whistle Blowing is deeply rooted in childhood memories and the tradition of storytelling, and a concern and consideration for her heritage and upbringing that is unique to the people of Connemara.
This body of work honours the story of the railway line, piecing together childhood memories through the photographic image. The subjective nature of the work makes this a personal testimony to the line and the land. Primarily a photography book, with quotes from Paddy Geoghegan from Carnrawer, Oughterard who remembers travel on the line.
