Product Description
A moving and unforgettable book best described in the author's own words :
"I, the undersigned, Dr. Miklós Nyiszli, physician and former prisoner of Auschwitz concentration camp No A-8450, testify that as an eyewitness employed at the Birkenau crematoria and pyres that devoured millions of fathers, mothers and children have written my account of this, the darkest chapter of human history, according to the truth, objectively, without any exaggeration or embellishment.
"As a doctor at the crematoria of Auschwitz, I have had to draft and sign with the number tattooed on my own arm innumerable medical and forensic reports regarding post-mortems. These documents were countersigned by my SS supervisor, Mengele, and then sent by post to: Berlin-Dahlem, Institut für Rassenbiologische und Antropologishe Forschungen, the address of one of the most renowned medical establishments in the world. In all probability these documents can still be found in the archives of this great institute. The object of my account is not literary success. I am a doctor, not a writer."
This book is the author's first-hand account of what he observed, what he was forced to do, and how he survived as the enslaved assistant to one of the most notorious war criminals of all time, the chief Nazi "physician" at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Painful but very important reading for all who wish to know more about the depth of man's cruelty to man during that horrific time, and about those who valiantly fought and survived and made it possible for the truth about what really happened.
