In Guerilla Days in Ireland, which has been one of the classics of the War of Independence since its first publication, Tom Barry describes the setting up of the West Cork Flying Column, its training and its plan of campaign. As much a study of tactics as a direct history, it is one of the best accounts of the period, by a writer who was involved directly in much of what occurred. Tom Barry (1897-1980) commanded the West Cork Brigade, perhaps the most effective Irish Republican Army unit during the Black and Tan War. He was anti-Treaty and later served in the 1930's as IRA Chief of Staff.
