The Monck family of County Wicklow, Ireland between the early 1600s and the early 1900s, including pedigree charts of the family in Ireland and England to the 1400s. In addition, "the story is mainly concerned with Charles Stanley, 4th Viscount Monck (1819-1894), and escapades and many love-affairs of his nine lively girl-cousins at Charleville, one of whom became his wife." Among other things, he served as Governor General of Canada between 1861 and 1868 (this included the time of the American Civil War ).
