The novel center on an extraordinary character, Rilke, a gay auctioneer who uncovers a gruesome cache of snuff pornography when he clears the house of a dead man. There is a huge supporting cast of misfits and outsiders, from transvestite, drug-dealing Les to big hearted Rose, and all are equally memorable.
