A hardcover first impression ( Frederick Muller, London 1951) of the fictional account of missionary nursing activity in the then Belgian Congo by Louise Stinetorf. Although a novel, the activities of the protagonist, Ellen Burton are based on the author's own journeys in central Africa in the 1930's .
Condition - light creasing to the dustjacket, closed tear to the front cover, creasing to the spine, and light edgewear throughout. The predominately white back cover shows scuffing and dustmarks.
This was the basis of a later 1953 film of the same title.
