A paperback ( Ward River Press, Dublin, reprint 1980) of Tim Pat Coogan's influential account of the H-Block prison 'Dirty Protest' in the 1970's to the time of publication.
No hardcover was issued. In itself, the book was controversial, in that some accused Coogan of taking the side of the protesters 100% - he does not, and retrospectively the book reads as one of Coogan's best works - it sets out the case clearly, and details both the squalid conditions in the H Block, as well as the IRA's campaign against prison warders in retaliation.
