Edward Millington Stephens ( 1888 -1955) was devoted to his uncle, the dramatist J.M Synge ( 1871-1909) , and spent much of his life living in the house next door to the Synges, as well as accompanying the playright on holidays in Wicklow and elsewhere, After J.M's death, he beacme custodian of the Synge papers, on which much of later academic work on the writer was based.
