Queerness is not just about sex or gender but encompasses a vast range of behaviour triggered by particular situations and our response to it. The basic premise of this anthology is that queerness, although grounded in gender and sexuality, is not unique to the LGBT community. It encompasses all sorts of people in varying degrees of intensity. More fittingly it can be seen as a flexible space for the expression of beliefs and values that are contra to the perceived normal ‘straight’ world. There are also compelling reason to argue that the strict rigidity that passes for ‘the norm’ in our society is designed to produce the appearance of a natural order. What we have set out to achieve is to make this queerness visible by publishing not just those who identify at LGBT but also writers who write to give us insight and perspective on the various shades of queerness we find exhibited in our city. We are indeed all ’queer’ to a greater or lesser degree, and as the title suggests It’s A Queer City All The Same.
