Product Description
This authentic example of literature-truth emerged from the diary of Carolina Maria de Jesus, which recounts the sad and cruel daily life of a woman who survives as a paper taster in the face of everything to scare away children and raise her children in the Canindé favela, in São Paulo. In an environment of extreme poverty and inequality of class, gender and race, we face it as hard day by day that we do not have love, but that we still do resist in the face of misery, violence and fome. And we sadly realize that, although it was written in the 1950s, this book has never lost its relevance.
The first publication of Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada, by Carolina Maria de Jesus, dates back to 1960, by isso, in 2020, when we commemorate the 60 years of its existence, Somos Educação will publish a special edition that is a very important work for Brazilian literature. With a renewed graphic project and a layer created by the artist No Martins, in addition to the author's original text, this book has a preface created by the writer Cidinha da Silva, photographs of two manuscripts by Carolina Maria de Jesus and a critical fortune with writers such as Alberto Moravia; literary critics, such as Marisa Lajolo, Carlos Vogt, Elzira Divina Perpétua, Fernanda Miranda; historians, such as José Carlos Sebe Bom Meihy, and journalists, such as Audálio Dantas, responsible for the publication of the first edition of the book, and Otto Lara Resende.
