The printing history of this series is somewhat complex - and as follows - Originally published in 1903 ( the first edition , but incomplete). - this was a long-running project covering Irish history from the ‘earliest times to the present day’, though initially only to 1908; published in 'half-volumes' numbered 1- 6 ( and later, with two additional volumes 7 & 8- THESE 2 LATER VOLUMES ARE NOT INCLUDED HERE)
Volume 1, from beginning to 1210 (1903); Volume 2, 1210-1547; Volume 3, 1547-1649; Volume 4, 1649-1842; Volume 5, 1782-1879; Volume 6, 1879-1908.
A second and third edition was issued by Gresham ( later Talbot) , Dublin and London. 1925. ( This listing is for Gresham Publishing Editions)
The 'original' 6 volumes are uniform in design and binding. A very handsome set, a full chronological history of Ireland. Illustrated , books 1-6 are numbered as one long text, with cross referenced index to the first six books at the end of book 6.
The celtic design motifs are particularly attractive.
Condition - Externally, very good ( and uncommonly so, as these are often found heavily sunned . Heavy age foxing on preliminary pages in all cases. These editions also have the embossed gilt finish on the front covers, ( not present onall editions of this series In all cases, the spines are sunned , if uniformly so, to a lighter shade of pale green .
