First published in 1964, this is a 1969 fifth reprint of The Pan book of horror stories edited by Herbert van Thal. A collection of 19 short stories , a mixture of classic Victorian and edwardian short stories, as well as the best of 20th century tales of the uncanny and horror. Van Thal was a bookseller, publisher and academic, as well as n aexpert on Victorian literature - this series eventually ran to 24 numbered collections from 1959 to 1983, and a huge number of reprints of those editions. The collections themselves attained a cult status.
Condition - usual tanning to the page block, bumps to corners. Heavy wear to base of spine, which is cracked ( but holding) Angled crease on front cover corner.
