In Manchester, in September 1867, the Fenian Brotherhood carried out a raid on a prison van, which resulted in the rescue of two Fenian leaders, but also in the the trial, conviction and execution of three of the attackers - who became subsequently known as the Manchester Martyrs - Allen, Larkin and O'Brien.
These executions had a profound impact on Irish public opinion, and the ballad written in their names - God Save Ireland, became a rebel standard.
Condition - Very good, no flaws, marks , some very light rubbing to the spine base, light rubbing to the dustjacket.
