A regimental history and official account of the Irish Guards in the First World War, written by Rudyard Kipling in honour of his son, John, who served in the Irish Guards and was killed in his first action at the battle of Loos. Kipling had encouraged his son to enlist, despite him having been initially been rejected by the army due to poor eyesight, and felt intense guilt at his death.
