    The book investigates the mysterious sinking of the Derbyshire a 1000 foot ship carrying ore which sunk off Japan  in September 1980 with the loss of 44 sailors, with the sinking happening so rapidly that a distress SOS could not even be sent. 

    The authors postulate that fatal design flaws were responsible.
