Journalist Jilly Beattie followed the ins and outs and dramatic revelations of the Jeffrey Donaldson case over the two years up until conviction. This is her detailed account of the case which shocked Northern Ireland.
In March 2024, one of the most powerful men in the United Kingdom stepped out of his front door into an armoured police car. Sir Jeffrey Donaldson – former leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, MP for Lagan Valley for 27 years, Privy Counsellor, Knight of the Realm and devout Christian – was arrested and charged with multiple child sexual offences. Two years later, a
jury unanimously found him guilty on all 18 charges, including the rape of a primary school-aged child.
This is the story of how it happened. It is the story of two women who carried devastating secrets for decades before finding the courage to speak out. It is the story of the police investigation,
the courtroom battle and the verdict that sent shockwaves through Northern Ireland. Above all, it is the story of what happens when power is finally held to account. From the first allegations to Donaldson’s conviction, Jilly Beattie has pursued the truth and stood alongside those who refused to be silenced. More than the story of a criminal trial, Revelations is a searing account of courage, investigative journalism and the relentless pursuit of truth.
