Casadh Na Spride is a collection of all the stories collected in the Boy’s and Girl’s National Schools in Ballingeary Co. Cork in 1937-38 as part of the Irish Folklore Commission’s School’s Scheme, a scheme wherby collectors collected written accounts of local folklore , history and customs from schoolchildren nationally.
Under the Scheme 50,000 children in 5,000 schools around Ireland collected stories from their families and neighbours and wrote them into their essay copybook.
In Ballingeary’s two schools over 280 individual contributions in Irish from 33 children are now available for the first time in Casadh Na Spride, compiled by Pádraig Ó Céilleachair.
