Product Description
A hardcover 1976 Readers Union reprint of the 1974 original. Jason Gurney was an English artist and sculptor, who like many of his generation, joined the anti fascist International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War. He was involved in the disastrous battle at Jarama in the failed attempt to hold the line against Franco's advance. Gurney describes the failures of the campaign without any gloss, his own injuries ironically meant he could never work as a stone sculptor.
