The story of a young woman who, against the odds in a man's world in Madras in India and then in New South Wales, battled for the rights of teenage girls. From 1814 - 1845. - England (1815 to 1830), India (1831 to 1838), Australia (1839 to 1845) This is the story of Caroline Jones, born into a substantial farming family in 1808 in the village of Wolton, now absorbed into Northampton, where a simple tombstone with the inscription, 'The Emigrant's Friend' marks her last resting place. She died March 25th, 1877, aged 67 years. Alongside her grave is that of her husband, Major Archibald Chisholm, Madras Native Infantry, who died August 17th, 1877, aged 81 years. Against the odds in a man's world first in Madras in India and then in New South Wales, she battled for the rights of teenage girls. She did this in the face of official indifference and vested interests. Caroline Chisholm had charm, bounce, courage and intelligence.
